Junior Pre-course
Junior pre-course is a part of the International Biomedical Congress, organized by the Association of Student Researchers in Bulgaria. It’s the only innovative event of its kind for students, which gives them the opportunity to attend a program prepared especially for them, which includes lectures and workshops focused on the main medical fields – medicine, dentistry, pharmacy and public health. The program includes a competitive part as well – the Universiade, which is held in two rounds – team and individual. Our goal is for students to feel the academics that participation in congresses brings and how it enriches their knowledge, showing novelties in medicine, operative interventions and interesting clinical cases. The participation of students in the congress is an incredible opportunity to develop their theoretical training, gain international experience and future professional orientation in the field of medicine and science.

Oncology
It may be the month of Libra, but in this workshop, we will talk about cancer! Often labeled as a taboo topic, we will try to answer all your questions about oncological diseases and show you that, despite the fear, cancer is not always as frightening!

Taking a Dental Impression
Everyone wants to have the perfect smile, but what does it actually look like? Come and find out!

Composite Tooth Restorations
If every time you sit in the dentist’s chair, you wonder not how much it will hurt but what the dentist is actually doing, then you are in the right place! It’s time to uncover the mysteries of dentistry with the “Composite Tooth Restorations” workshop!

Resuscitation
Have you decided to study medicine after watching a doctor save a human life by sticking a pen into their throat in a movie? Here, we will tell you why this only happens in movies and what we should actually do in emergency situations requiring immediate intervention!

ECG
From Olympic athletes to a broken heart, here you will learn to interpret one of the key examinations in every doctor’s practice!

Taking a Medical History
“Seek, and you shall find” is the basic principle that a doctor should adhere to. And their work always starts with taking a medical history – a detective interrogation that, when done well, leads you straight to the diagnosis.

Endocrinology
All of us have had our “hormones hit” – but what happens when they hit us harder than we can bear? Join us in the “Endocrinology” workshop to find out!

Physiology of Muscles
We all move, but do you actually know how that happens? This workshop will introduce you to the basics of one of our most fundamental functions!

Cytology and Histology
We all know that the body is composed of a vast number of cells. However, not all of us have thought about what different cells that make us up actually look like. If you want to understand the similarities and differences in the structure of our tissues, then don’t miss the workshop on Cytology and Histology, which is held in one of the most modern halls at the Medical University!

Osteology
Bones, bones, and more bones. In the “Osteology” workshop, you will get acquainted with each of the 206 bones in your body, and you will have the opportunity to explore the museum of the Anatomy Department of the Medical University of Sofia.

Parasitology
Did you know that mice infected with toxoplasma lose their fear and even seek out cats themselves? Have you heard about tapeworms so big that they can block our entire intestines? If you want to learn more interesting facts about simple but extremely dangerous parasites for humans and have the opportunity to see them, sign up for the Parasitology workshop!

The Most Practical Workshop!
The Big Five in Physical Examinations
Is your heart beating rhythmically? Can you breathe with your whole lung? Swelling in your legs? How about your thyroid? Most likely, everything is fine with you. But what about your grandma? Do you want to be able to examine her and know if everything is okay before even becoming a medical student? Come to the “Most Practical Workshop,” and I will show you what the Big Five weapons of every doctor are!

Microbiology
Have you ever wondered how bacteria look under a microscope? Do you want to proudly post on Instagram how cool the spores you’ve colored by hand look? If your answer to these questions is yes, then the Microbiology workshop is just for you!

Antioxidants
All women love cosmetics, especially those that contain antioxidants. What do they actually represent, why are they so useful, and how can we get them without breaking our bank account? These and many more questions will be answered at the Antioxidants workshop, where you will have the opportunity to explore some of the most popular antioxidants using specific devices that you most likely have never seen before!

Chemistry
Tired of solving problems on the blackboard instead of conducting experiments? Want to feel like Harry Potter and brew some colorful potions? Then grab your broomstick and head straight to the Chemistry workshop!

Laparoscopy
Do you know what bloodless surgeries involve and how large tumors can be removed through a 5mm incision? This workshop will explain the basic principles of laparoscopy.

CBC – Complete Blood Count
This is the most commonly prescribed laboratory test for assessing overall health. When you feel tired, relaxed, have a fever, or pain, no matter where, the doctor will prescribe you a Complete Blood Count. Interpreting it is the first step in diagnosing many diseases.

Yellow Signal
We will get to know the path of bilirubin in the human body, the reasons for developing jaundice, and how to understand the basic laboratory liver markers.
